Lymphoma imaging in PET/CT era including Lugano classification

Liina Karusoo (Estonia)
Radiologist, North Estonia Medical Centre
Biography: After graduation from the medical faculty at Tartu University, I specialized on radiology and have been working in this field from 1997. My main interests lie in oncologic imaging, it has led me to nuclear medicine and hybrid imaging as well. In recent years I have focused on hematologic malignancies. In the light of remarkable advances in treatment options for patients with hematological tumors, I find it motivating to learn continuously about these entities to find the best diagnostic tools and thus provide a solid starting point for making the best treatment choice.

Presentation

Small Hall

Synopsis: Diagnostic imaging provides important information for staging and response assessment in patients with lymphoma. The use of standardized criteria for staging and response assessment formes the basis for making accurate treatment decisions. Over the years, staging systems have been worked out and dedicated criteria have been developed for evaluating response to therapy with both computed tomography (CT) and fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-PET/CT). Today Lugano classification is the most widely used system for staging and response assessment for Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This presentation aims to remind radiologists about the morphological and metabolic changes characteristic to lymphoma, to give an overview of lymphoma staging and treatment response assessment with both morphological imaging methods and 18F-PET/CT according to Lugano classification as well as outline the differences between evaluation of lymphomas and solid tumors.

This agenda item is presented in the following session: S6-2 Oncology Imaging
