Advances in genetic testing of familial hypercholesterolemia

Dr. Kairit Joost (Estonia)
Medical geneticist, East-Tallinn Central Hospital
Biography: Primarily trained as a pediatrician I specialised in the beginning of the 21st century to the clinical genetics. Already in the early stages of my career I learned that the most important part in clinical genetics is diagnosing and consulting of conditions where not-knowing can cause patient serious harm. Mainly because of that reason her the doctoral thesis (def. 2012) focused to the diagnostics of inherited metabolic disorders, where early diagnostics and beginning of the treatment can significantly improve patient’s quality of life and sometimes be life-saving. Also I have been co-author in several diagnostic guidelines in inherited metabolic and oncological diseases. Currently I am working in East-Tallinn Central Hospital as a medical geneticist and consulting patients from most of specialities including cardiology and metabolic disorders.
